Diane, I finished "Walking in God's Shadow." I have lots of thought going off right now. First, you were brave to write it. I have written things about my life and learned years ago, maybe they were better not shared. You will have some that won't understand, but remember that is their issue, not yours.
Key points: "Now I know, I need to care for myself, to enable MYSELF to be one with God."
God loves us so much that he wants us to love ourselves. Why keep punishing ourselves over and over, God doesn't. God doesn't ask you to give it all away. He wants you to be strong for you. Your purpose right now might be to just share with others your story so they can grow from it.
My belief is one needs to learn to love themselves, be comfortable and satisfied being alone, and be open to what God brings or doesn't bring ones way. Then when they least expect it God will put someone in their life.
"Nobody said that the path to recovery is easy or will be over with in a "short while." it is hard, it is filled with setbacks and pain and sorrow, which only fosters that vicious cycle of drinking/drugs to medicate from all the pain!"
There are many kinds of addiction. Those dealing with chemicals are the easiest to recognize. There is the addiction to sex, shopping, gambling, eating, wanting to be loved, any many others. It is hard to make the changes. These are habits and habits are very difficult to break. One becomes comfortable with the feelings and it's uncomfortable when they don't have it in their life. This is true whether it's stress, negative thoughts, making excuses, etc....
I have often used the analogy of finding total peace with God as climbing a mountain.
Imagine you are on a path to the top (God), and you come to a large boulder. You need to turn around and go a short ways back until you find a clear path. Then you take that path and you make it further up the mountain and you now run into a dead end, so back down you go. Still it is not as far as you were, but you did back slide. You find another path and continue. This happens over and over. God doesn't leave us, we leave God.
I see you as a beautiful person, who wants a loving relationship. Let go and it will come when you least expect it.

You can totally delete what I have written. I usually find it much easier to explain myself in person and I hope this hasn't offended you in any way, that was not my intent. I hope the book will make lots of money for Changing Gaits. It sounds like a wonderful place. You are lovable, and it someday you will feel the love you deserve.
